About NurseFirst Home Healthcare
NurseFirst Home Healthcare-Ottawa was founded by Tracy Saldivia-Odar, Registered Nurse, community healthcare advocate, and healthcare entrepreneur.
After years of working in healthcare, including community home healthcare nursing throughout Ottawa and surrounding communities, Tracy witnessed first hand many of the challenges facing nurses working in the home and community care sector.
During her experience in community nursing, she encountered concerns related to workplace practices, compensation inequities, working conditions, unpaid work expectations, accommodation challenges, employment rights concerns, and barriers that affected both healthcare professionals and the quality of care delivered to patients.
These experiences revealed a troubling reality: many community home healthcare nurses are expected to provide complex, high-quality care while receiving significantly lower compensation than nurses working in other sectors of Ontario's healthcare system. Ottawa community nurses earn 30–40% less than their hospital counterparts despite providing equally essential healthcare services.
After experiencing these challenges firsthand, Tracy became determined to create a different model—one where nurses are respected, valued, supported, and compensated fairly for their expertise and dedication.
